Syria Protest in LA

We were in Anaheim going to the Arabic stores to buy some sweets and we saw this protest.
I thought it was pretty interesting. The face of the Middle East is changing so much this year. It has really been such a shift in consciousness. It seems a wildfire went across from Tunisia and spread to Egypt, Syria and Yemen. Amazing. Even they were organizing a jasmine protest in China can you believe it?

Pinless Hijab the hijab that will always stay put

You wont spend a second re adjusting hijab. I will be listing this in my store soon! Handmade one of kind. Pink chiffon and gold ribbon, a chained rhinestone jewel, braided fabric. Unique design. Only one in the world.

Garment district in Los Angeles

This is the best place ever. Full of wonderful finds. I would say a four block radius full of fabric trims etc... It is so busy and you will find the fabric of your dreams, silks, chiffons, sequins. I was going crazy looking at everything. My husband was bored out of his mind hahahah.

New silk scarves

The blue scarf is actually like a cloudy sky! This is for sale in my shop.

The pictures really can't show you how shiny and silky the silk is.

Shabasas, hair clips

I have some new shabasas, or hair clips to add volume to the veil. The two black ones are made of hand dyed silk. They all have rhinestones and flowers. The green one is made of a heavy brocade, the kelly green is a silky material. I will be listing these in my store.

Velvet half niqabs

These are a couple half niqabs I made. They are each in velvet with a piece of decorative ribbon. I will be posting them soon in my store. The hijab is also for sale. It has added embellishments and it is actually sewn into the underscarf making it about the easiest hijab ever. You simply put it on and that is it, khalas. No messing around with pins or nothing. I thought of this idea because I loved wearing abay in the gulf and the lovely shaylas. However, I find pins really annoying. I also honestly readjusted my hijab about 29 times a day. I also know most of the gulf women were messing around with theirs scarves all day too. I will still wear hijab without pins but I wanted to solve this problem of making a chiffon scarf sewn to the underscarf. Since I am so girly, I couldn't help myself and had to add a little harakat.

I have started sewing these items to fill a gap I see in the market for 1) unique items that are custom 2) hijabs that are lovely, ornate and will never fall off, never need pins, but still look luxurious.

Gulf Abaya and Shayla designs

Here are some beautiful designs I found floating around on the internet. If you have any that you have found and would like to share please let me know. I find the butterfly design of the Abaya has been quite popular for a few years in the gulf. Abayas, in order to look elegant are embellished with crystals, embroidery, beads and ornate fabric. The hair clip or "shabasa", "chabasa" is very popular. This provides some volume to the hair and also keeps the shayla or veil in place. There is some controversy over it as they seem to be getting bigger and bigger providing an illusion of having a lot of hair which defeats the purpose of modesty in Islam. Personally I think a medium size clip to keep the hijab in place is fine.
